While any car battery can be used, we recommend the following specifications for optimal performance:
Battery Type: Deep Cycle (Sealed Lead Acid)
Capacity: A 20 amp hour battery can power the UHF radio at the 35w setting for nearly 4 hours. For a full 8-hour work day, we suggest using a 40+ amp hour battery.
The cost of the battery will vary based on its capacity, with prices ranging from $100 to $200.
Example: Duracell Ultra 12V 35AH Deep Cycle AGM SLA Battery with J Terminals
The UHF radio add-on allows the user to stream corrections from the base without a cell connection.
By default, the UHF radio is set to the highest power output possible (35W) for maximum range.
To save battery power and reduce heat output, the radio power output can be reduced. This will reduce radio range but increase battery life and reduce heat generated.
How long will 12v battery run at 35W?
With a fully charged, well performing car or marine battery, you can get ~6 hoursWhat is the maximum range at 35W output?
Depends on local topography, but maximum expected range is approximately 6-7 miles from the base..
UHF radio range is dependent on local topography. Radio range is primarily line of sight, meaning the higher the antenna, the greater range you get.
If using SATEL "TA13 compact proof" radio, you will need to type in a few commands to EOS Tools Pro for the corrections to stream properly. This is a one time thing to enable this particular model of radio with your rover GNSS.

This model radio requires additional configurationIn EOS Tools Pro, Terminal tab, input these commands to the command line:
$JOFF,PORTB
$JBAUD,38400,PORTB
$JSAVE
After configuration.... As long as the radio receiver is receiving from the radio broadcast in the base, corrections will stream.
